Tavronitis is a traditional seaside village which has kafenios, tavernas, bakeries  and mini-markets. The pebbly beach is just a short walk from the main village. It is not very far from Falassarna, with its beautiful sandy beaches and fish fresh tavernas. The village of Tavronitis is halfway between Maleme and Kolimbari where once again you will find attractive beaches, shops, tavernas etc.

Tavronitis played an important part in the battle of Crete in 1941 when the German attack was concentrated on the Airfield of Maleme, scene of the German parachute landings, and the Tavronitis Bridge battle.
